Founded in 1957 by Albanian immigrants, AMST played a pivotal role in establishing Toronto’s first mosque — a modest leather shop on Dundas Street transformed by a devoted, multicultural group of Muslims into a sacred place of worship and unity. Under the leadership of Regip Assim, AMST became a beacon for Muslims seeking faith, community, and purpose in a new land. As Toronto’s Muslim population grew, so did the community’s needs.
